There are many ways to grow as a Christian. In this article we will discuss 10 ways to grow as a Christian. Life is about growth, and God expects us to grow during our Christian life (Eph. 4:15-16). The Christian life is a journey that begins with faith and the desire to follow Jesus Christ and be more like him. On this journey, we face challenges in life, some of which are common to others. Challenges can help us grow spiritually, becoming stronger, wiser, better, and more Christ-like, and draw us closer to God.
When we grow as a Christian, we grow spiritually, strengthen our faith in God and try to fulfill his purpose for our lives. God created us to live consciously with him, to love him and others, to learn, and to glorify him and we can do this because of the power of his Holy Spirit within us. This process of spiritual growth continues until we become established believers and throughout the rest of our lives.
As Christians, we are advised to “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 3:18). Jesus was the very special son of God. His horrible death on the cross demonstrated his love for us so that we would not perish, but have everlasting life. There is so much we can learn from his life. Yet, there are many Christian who are indifferent and do not grow spiritually. Please don’t let that be you. Jesus is our best role model and when we grow as a Christian, we will know and follow God’s plan for our lives, be more successful, and enjoy our lives to the max.
To grow as a Christian requires effort and discipline and is a choice that we all have to make. For example, do you want to spend more quality time with God or do you prefer spending all your time pursuing more worldly things? There is nothing more wonderful than spending quality time communicating with God. Spending quality time with God is very important if you want to grow as Christian and make more progress in life.
10 ways you can grow as a Christian:
- Put God first.
- Develop a strong, burning desire to grow spiritually.
- Plan to make progress.
- Spend quality time with God in prayer.
- Read spiritual books, especially the Bible*.
- Fellowship with other Christians.
- Worship God with songs of praise as often as you can.
- Trust in your God.
- Be grateful to God, always.
- Delight yourself in the Lord.
These practices will help you grow spiritually, and they and other ideas will be developed further in the Blog. Remember also, that spirituality influences our thoughts, words, actions, and feelings. As your level of spirituality increases, you will make more progress in other areas of your life and you will enjoy it more.
Wherever you are in life, you can make more progress as a Christian. If you truly love God, you would focus on your spiritual growth more because it influences other areas of your life and it will help you be more Christ-like. You will also bear the fruits of the spirit – love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Gal. 5:22-23), and you will “live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way” (Col. 1:10). And now, what is your plan to continue to grow as a Christian? Write it down and make it happen.
