Put God First

If you want to make more progress in life, the best thing you can do is to put God first. Putting God first means making him your top priority, dedicating your life to him, and allocating your resources to give him the first and best of all you have.

Make God your top priority

man by crossGod is “the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End” (Rev. 22:13). He is the creator and ruler of all there is and ever will be. Everything originates from God, exists by his power and is intended for his glory (Rom. 11:36). God also created you and lives in you. Without him you cannot exist. You can do nothing without God, but with him you can do almost everything. For all that God has done and continues to do for us, he deserves to be our top priority. Making God our top priority means putting him before everyone and everything else. As you do this, dedicating your life to him becomes easier.

Dedicate your life to God

Dedicating your life to God means having a personal relationship with him, living consciously with him, and loving him as much as you can. He wants to have a personal relationship with us. He wants us to experience him for ourselves and this is one of the reasons why our bodies are the temples of his Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 6:19). The Holy Spirit is a manifestation of God and having it within us is powerful. The Holy Spirit within, enables us to communicate directly with God and to do and experience many things with him. This Holy Spirit also enables us to experience God through his work in others, the world around us, the universe, and in many other ways.

The more you experience God, the easier it is to live more consciously with him. Living consciously with God means being more aware of his presence in you, your life, and the universe, and involving him more. As you involve God more, and commit your work to the Lord, your plans will be established (Prov. 16:3) and you will make more progress. You will also get to know and love God more because He is love (1 John 4:8), and the better you know him, the more you will love him.

You can put God first and live consciously with him wherever you are. Because God lives within us through his Holy Spirit, we can communicate with him whenever we want because he is always with us and he will hear and answer our prayers. When you do this, you may be amazed by how much more God will demonstrate his love for you.

Allocate some of your resources to God

As you put God first, remember that he does not need the resources he has entrusted to us. They are already his, but by putting him first and allocating some of what he has given us and continues to give us to his work on earth, we demonstrate our love for him. One of the most important resources you can allocate to God is your time. When you wake up in the morning, put God first and spend quality time with him then and as often as you can throughout the day.

You can also ask God to help you put him first and make more progress with him. When we commit our work to God, he will establish our plans (Prov. 16:3). He will do the same for you in other areas of your life. Putting God first is absolutely free and the benefits are amazing. He may bless you even more. As God blesses you, remember not to put your hope in the uncertainty of riches. Keep your hope in God who richly provides us with everything to enjoy (1 Tim. 6:17).

Will you put God first?

Beginning today, always put God first. Putting God first and loving him as much as you can will help you grow spiritually, make more progress in other areas of your life, have the best possible experience from life and enjoy it to the full. Let nothing and no one come between you and your God. Put God first!
